Big Cat: San Francisco is part of my Big Pet Series which includes a menagerie of funny and somewhat surreal outsized cats and dogs in various settings around the Bay Area and beyond. I started the series with Rainbow Cat: Sausalito and expanded to many more cats in windows, by pools, in the forest, in vineyards, on the beach, etc. before I began to get requests for dogs as well, so of course I added some. Animals have a knack for mirroring human emotions – especially the animals we know and love. Whether our pets actually experience all we project on them seems unlikely – but they definitely have the power to influence our feelings – usually in the warm and fuzzy direction.

The warm glowing colors of the cats and dogs in my Big Pets Series are symbolic of the emotional warmth and joy these animals bring into our lives. The surreal enlargement of the animals in various settings (Sausalito, San Francisco, a fantasy window, a tropical pool) is symbolic of the out-sized hold they have over our hearts.
